Sakinah ready to roll

I'm ready to roll! Are you?
(Sakinah in the car, getting ready to stay behind at the Polytechnic)

Today Sakinah got enrolled at the Politeknik Sultan Azlan Shah, Tg. Malim. No doubt it is an historic day for her, setting out to undertake tertiary education in her chosen field, accountancy.

The brand new polytechnic campus is located in Behrang, one and-a-half hour's drive from home. Although the campus was choked with traffic, the registration went very smoothly.

Sakinah shall be here for the next three years. Insya Allah after that she'd take a shot at the degree course. Last night we had a heart-to-heart talk with Sakinah to get her mentally prepared for this part of the journey of her life.

All the best Sakinah. Abah will miss waking and dragging you out of bed every morning to do your suboh prayer. And I'll be missing you too to help clean my dirty plate after dinner every night now. And, oh, who's gonna feed the guppies? Sigh...

Registration went smoothly

All made up, and ready to study

Dear Azizi,
Seeing that Sakinah is at Behrang, pl visit the old quint town just off the police station and near the railway station if you have not done so. I had on two occassions called there to see the one street town with its single row of old wooden shophouses with friendly occupants. You can get good coffee O and Malay cakes at the coffee shops + mee bandung too. The open market has fresh items for sale. I especially stop here to get good quality iron and steel knives /parangs manufactured by a local blacksmith (Chinese). An occupation almost dead and hardly found anywhere now. The ironsmith shop is at the back row of the main street accessible from the market area.Part of my interest is collecting kris and the ironsmith turned out some quality blades which I believe are distributed all over. The sarongs for the knives I believe are made by the local Malays. I believe fishermen from Sabak Bernam also called here to get their fishing equipments since there are shops selling boats and tackles et.
I was introduced to this town by an article in the NST a yr or two ago.

Salam and all the best to Sakinah.
Happy hunting.

As a Perakian I'm a bit embarassed that you, a Kedahan, seem to know a lot more of about our little towns. And by the sound of it Behrang (as per your description) should be a gem worth discovering.

I'd bring my camera along to record it for posterity. You'll never know what might happen to quaint old towns. One minute they there, the next they might be gone to make way for "modern" development.

Thank you so much for sharing this with me.
